Holiday Honoring Huddie “Leadbelly” Ledbetter Established by Relative- Activist Greshun De Bouse

He is in the Louisiana Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and more. Now he has his own holiday. Celebrated annually August 1, National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ is a music history awareness holiday established by Leadbelly’s relative, Global Activist Greshun De Bouse that “honors the life and legacy of Louisiana native, musical pioneer,

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and "King of the 12-String", -Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter”, according to the official website. Activist De Bouse established this holiday to educate all on past, present, and future Leadbelly musical influence. Even the Beatle’s lead guitarist George Harrison stated, “No Leadbelly, no Beatles” in a 2015 Smithsonian Magazine article entitled “The Incomparable Legacy of Lead Belly.” Born and buried in Mooringsport, LA, Leadbelly worked and resided in nearby Oil City, LA, Shreveport, LA, and an erected statue of him is located on Texas Street-which connects Bossier City, LA and Shreveport, LA. Leadbelly still has relatives who work and/or reside in or near all of the aforementioned places. Oil City, LA mayor will be issuing a proclamation to De Bouse for the holiday, and the same is anticipated by others. Kudos to Global Activist De Bouse for raising awareness of the ever-present musical influence that is Leadbelly. #huddieledbetterday
