National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ 2023 #HUDDIELEDBETTERDAY
It’s August 1, and it’s National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ #HUDDIELEDBETTERDAY
Today we honor the “life and legacy of Louisiana native, musical pioneer, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and King of the 12-String, Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter”, according to the Official National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ website. Lead Belly’s direct descendant, American Activist Greshun De Bouse established the holiday as a music history awareness holiday for the masses to learn, discover, and/or rediscover Lead Belly impetus on past, present, and future music. De Bouse says, “It is a privilege to honor this global icon who is also my relative in this manner. Persons, especially today’s youth, hear music, Lead Belly music, but are unaware of its origin. National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ exists to change this. Lead Belly was a creative multi-instrumentalist and musical genius in his own right, who deserves attribution for all of his musical contributions.”
De Bouse has received mayoral proclamations for the holiday in Louisiana, with more expected to come in various states. Happy National Huddie Ledbetter Day™ 2023!
